Sonic
Unveils Windows Vista Technology Preview
Sonic Also Working with Microsoft to Develop Certified
for Windows Vista Digital Media Software Applications
30 January 2007 — To coincide with the forthcoming consumer
launch of Microsoft Windows Vista, Sonic Solutions® (NASDAQ: SNIC), the
leader in digital media software, has unveiled a number of product updates
that enable consumers to exploit the new technologies of Microsoft’s innovative
new operating system.
The first is the launch of a technology preview that takes full advantage
of new Windows Vista technologies to deliver a truly intuitive, interactive,
and visually-rich user experience. Roxio Central, which serves as a core
access point to digital media tasks across Roxio software products and
offers digital-media recording and backup features, is one of the first
applications to build upon and exploit Windows Presentation Foundation
(WPF), the presentation sub-system for Vista.
WPF enables software designers and developers to create unique software
applications that offer rich 3D graphics, animations, transitions and stunning
visuals. Sonic plans to provide the technology as a download from www.roxio.com and www.windowsvista.com later
this quarter.
In addition, Sonic is also working with Microsoft to develop digital media
applications that optimise and enhance consumers’ experience with Windows
Vista. Certified for Windows Vista applications will include a
range of Sonic Roxio products such as Easy Media Creator® 9, the company’s
flagship digital media software suite of CD and DVD authoring, burning,
photo, video, and music tools. The suite includes extensive support for
portable entertainment devices, high-definition video editing tools, and
ground-breaking audio creation and enjoyment features, and is expected
to be certified through the premium Certified for Windows Vista Logo programme
within the consumer launch window.
“We are delighted to extend our relationship with Microsoft and use the
Vista platform to provide consumers a glimpse into the future,” said Stan
Wong, general manger, Roxio division of Sonic Solutions. “Our early work
with Microsoft’s next-generation tools and technologies has helped accelerate
the development of applications that exploit unique Vista capabilities
that will revolutionise digital media experiences on the PC. We look forward
to delivering applications that integrate well with Windows Vista and complement
and enhance consumers’ experiences of the forthcoming operating system.”
“We are extremely pleased that Sonic is one of the technology leaders
engaged in supporting the launch of Windows Vista,” said Dave Wascha, director
of partner marketing for Windows Vista at Microsoft Corp. “Easy Media Creator
9 is a solid complement to the premium experiences in Windows Vista and
will help increase consumers’ enjoyment of working with personal photos,
videos and music.”
As part of the Windows Vista launch program agreement between Microsoft
and Sonic, Microsoft will showcase Roxio Easy Media Creator 9 as a complimentary
application to Windows Vista, in a range of venues and programs across
Europe.
