Media Ticker Help

Viewing and Editing Pictures

User Profile: Mary, Age 35

Mary likes to take photos and dump them into the My Pictures folder on her computer. She loves how MediaTicker automatically picks up the photos and displays them scrolling across the bottom of her screen. As Mary checks her email, every now and again she sees photos scrolling by that she’d love to edit, email to friends and family and, occasionally, print out.

With MediaTicker, you can view your pictures without launching a separate desktop application. This makes editing, emailing and printing photos really quick and easy.

Adding your pictures to MediaTicker:

It’s really easy to add your pictures to MediaTicker:

  1. Launch MediaTicker 2
  2. Right-click anywhere on the ticker and select "Options…". The Options window appears.
  3. Select the "Sources" tab in the Options window.
  4. Select "My Folders" from the popup menu at the top of the window.
  5. Click "Add Folder…" to browse to the picture folder you want to add.
  6. Click OK to add the location to the "My Folders" list
  7. Click OK in the Options window.

MediaTicker will now scan the new folder for picture content and add them to the ticker.

To view a photo:

Simply click on the photo in the ticker to see the Large View:

The Large View window includes a toolbar for performing all sorts of common functions:

1. Skipping Photos

You can easily skip forward or backward in the photo list by clicking the "Next" and "Previous" buttons in the toolbar.

2. View photo information ("Show/Hide Information")

MediaTicker displays all the metadata for a picture in the Info window. Click the 'I' button in the Large View toolbar to see picture information, overlaid as a semi-transparent rectangle in the top-left corner of the image:

3. To email pictures:

Click the "Email" button in the Large View toolbar to email the image to a friend. The user’s default email program will be used to automatically create a new email with the image attached.  Just add the recipient’s address and a message and Send!

4. To print pictures

Printing pictures is just as easy. Just click the "Print" icon in the Large View toolbar and select your printer from the Windows Print dialog that appears:

5. To rotate pictures

Easy!  Just click the "rotate clockwise" or "rotate counter-clockwise" buttons in the toolbar:

6. To set an image as a desktop background

You can make any local image in your ticker into your desktop background. Just open the image in Large View and click the "Set as Desktop Background" button.

7. To go to the image’s location ("Go to location")

It’s often really useful to be able to go straight to an image’s "containing" folder – the directory which contains the image file.  Click this button and MediaTicker will bring up the containing folder in Windows Explorer.  When the window displays images from the web, this function will take you to the web page where the image is hosted.

8. To save an image ("Save")

Save images from RSS feeds to your hard drive by pressing the "Save" button in the full-size photo display.

9. To perform more advanced edits ("Edit in PhotoSuite")

While MediaTicker provides some basic image tools, more advanced image editing is done within the Roxio PhotoSuite application.  You can choose to send any image over to PhotoSuite for editing and repairing photos, creating DVD slideshows, collages, calendars and even turning photos into moving images!  MediaTicker and PhotoSuite are your perfect picture partners.

10. To remove an image from the hard disk ("Delete Image")

Delete an image on your hard disk permanently by pressing the "delete" button in the full-size photo display. Great for cleaning up those thumb-over-the-flash shots you copied from your camera.
